I wrote a blog before this.
About a book.
And as all my AVID readers know…
I can’t continue writing on the same topic for long.
I dropped it and moved on.
You should too.
Here’s another book I read.
“THE ONE MINUTE MANAGER MEETS THE MONKEY”
I haven’t read any other One Minute Manager books but I was curious to know about the Monkey.
Yes.
It’s a monkey.
Right on top of you.
He’s the reason for the teardrops on your guitar.
(I bet you heard Taylor Swift right now)
Well if not teardrops then just frustration and lack of time.

Highlights of the book.
“If you are someone who feels overwhelmed with problems created by other people, what you are about to read can change your life.”
Apparently every human being feels as if the problem was created by someone else.
And they’re just stuck with it because they are more responsible.
A misunderstanding that has ruined a lot of relationships.
Being a manager sucks in many ways.
Sometimes you have to work “extra hours as well as Saturdays and some Sundays”
(Urghhh… my worst nightmare!)
This usually happens because you assume “My staff was not ready to take additional responsibilty”
No one is ever ready to take on responsibility, unless they’re given some first.
“I was doing more and accomplishing less.”
Have you ever felt this?
I felt it to the bone.
I mean I’m always doing more than I am accomplishing.
But what has all that hard work brought me?
(Shhh… it’s a top-secret)
“I have seen the enemy, and he is I”
It’s always you.
Haven’t you heard?
You are your worst enemy!
The Notorious Monkey – Explained.
“A monkey is the next move”
According to the author, when someone expresses their problem, you listen carefully and then you take over the responsibility of solving that problem.
Human beings are problem solving creatures.
They take great pleasure in solving someone else’s issues rather than facing their own.
(We’d rather judge others than face our own realities)
So this is how you create a problem for yourself while solving someone else’s problem.
And that problem is a monkey.
“For every monkey there are two parties involved: One to work it and one to Supervise it”
It has jumped off from the other person’s back onto yours and now you bear its burden.
It’s a vicious cycle really.
“Things not worth doing are not worth doing well”
But you do it anyway because it makes you feel better about yourself.
It is the worst way to make yourself feel better.
And everyone is a part of the group of ” “do-gooders”‑ very loving people who were running around trying to help others but who were crippling those they were trying to help by making them dependent.”
It can be liberating.
Helping others.
But make sure you don’t overdo it.
Specially at your workplace.
The frustration and workload will eat you alive!
And don’t forget to tell me what you think in the comments section.
Until next time. Readers. Good night.
